What Happens When it Snows in the South

"Snow Miser vs. Heat Miser"

After seeing many posts going around Facebook from people who are not from the South making fun of how Southerners react to “snow”, I decided to write this to hopefully clear up any misconceptions there may be about why the South “shuts down” when there is a threat of snow.  While this is not theme park related, it is a Southern topic! Thanks for your attention and please enjoy! -Jackie An open letter to anyone who doesn’t understand why, or worse yet, thinks it’s funny when the South shuts down for “snow”: Hello!  Let me introduce myself. I am a […]

Hurricane Harbor Update

hurricaneharborconstruction5

Well folks, At the headquarters for Destination South in Georgia, we just had a “snow event” that essentially shut down the city for two days . So, with it being the slow season still, let’s think about warmer weather by taking a look at the latest construction pictures of Hurricane Harbor at Six Flags Over Georgia courtesy of their Facebook page! As you can see land grading for the area appears to be done for the most part with the beginnings of what appears to be a pump house structure being started. Now that the large scale grading is coming […]

ACE Summer Con 2013 – Part 2: Canadian National Exhibition and Marineland

Part 2: Canadian National Exhibition and Marineland After a quick meal along the way, David and I arrived at the Canadian National Exhibition around 8:00 Saturday evening, August 24. Having recently been to 2 German fairs, I was curious how this would compare. Overall there were more rides here than at the German fairs and there were particularly more children’s rides. In addition there were a lot of other fair exhibits which you didn’t see in Germany. The German fairs had bigger, more intense rides and more food stands and games. The Canadian fair was pretty crowded, but it was […]

ACE Summer Con 2013 – Canada’s Wonderland & Marineland plus Canadian National Exhibition Part 1: Canada’s Wonderland On Friday, August 23 ACE Summer Con 2013 began at Canada’s Wonderland, Canada’s largest amusement park and the highest attendance park for Cedar Fair. Originally I planned to take Friday off, but due to taking so much vacation for the Central Europe trip, I needed to work Friday morning and fly out Friday afternoon. I flew into Buffalo and rented a car. This would give me enough time to drive to the park and arrive a while before ERT. Or so I thought. […]

ACE Coaster Con XXXVI – Epilogue: Story Land & Santa’s Village

568

Epilogue: Story Land & Santa’s Village On Saturday, June 22 with Coaster Con over, it was a good opportunity to visit some small parks in NH. It is interesting to me that NH has several small parks while neighboring VT has none. We had planned to visit the 3 smaller parks in NH that Saturday, but unfortunately Six Gun City in Jefferson, NH didn’t open for the season. It has since reopened, but we only got to see Gold Rush Express (E&F Miler, Family Coaster, 2005) from the road. Even so, Story Land and Santa’s Village make for a full […]

Part 2: Canobie Lake, Palace Playland & Funtown Splashtown We left for the 2 hour drive to our next park with a quick stop along the way at Funworld Game Center, a family entertainment center in Nashua, NH. They have one roller coaster: Orient Express: (Wisdom, Kiddie Coaster, 1997) This gave a pretty forceful ride for a small coaster – 1 ride. We also rode: Two Story Venetian Carousel: (Venetian, Modern Carousel, 1999) Imported from Italy – 1 ride. They also have a small Himalaya. This is a nice FEC with lots of games, bowling and other activities. After checking […]

ACE Coaster Con XXXVI – Part 1: Six Flags New England

ACE Coaster Con XXXVI – Part 1: Six Flags New England This year ACE Coaster Con XXXVI was held at Six Flags New England, Canobie Lake Park, Palace Playland and Funtown Splashtown USA. We began at Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA with a dinner on Sunday, June 16. After several extraordinary Cons over the last few years, I was wondering what this Con would bring. This is one of the smaller Six Flags properties, one from the Premier days, and I wasn’t sure if they would rise to the level we have recently experienced. They did. From a […]
